Sorry for the delayed reply. Our daughter was just recently baptized and now I am playing catch-up with comments. Thanks for your questions.
Unfortunately cooking destroys a large portion of the nutritional value in our raw foods almost immediately. Having said that, quite a number of people have a tough time digesting raw foods all the time. I see your diet is fairly healthy just from the little bit you have shared but it seems pretty good nonetheless. Same goes for the nuts too sorry, any roasting, toasting or cooking changes the nutritional value of the nut to a much lesser value. Always remember, if you are eating healthy the way it seems you are, and you are exercising too? then try to eat more raw foods in quantity throughout the weeks coming up and not roasting the nuts and just play a "try and see" game with yourself and "try" the new ways of eating and "see" what results you gain from doing so. I really appreciate your question and don't hesitate to ask more. Hope this helps a little at least.

I dont have the discpline nor the interest to do a strictly raw diet. I try to eat healthy - fruit veggies chicken fish working to increase whole wheat / fibre etc. I limit if any pasta/ rice / bread.

My question - does cooking food really change its nutritional value? ie vegetables - raw or cook? Nuts -like to roast almonds walnuts for a salad or snack - dont put anything on them just toast in the oven. Just curious?

Hi Tony

I have searched various sites trying to get an answer for my first question and seems everyone has a different response so figured I would ask the expert....

1. What's the difference between fish oil and cod liver oil? Do they have different functions for better health - do you recommend one over the other?

2. Besides eating more fibre, fruits and veggies and drinking more water (which I am starting to do) Is there another / quicker solution for helping constipation? I dont feel bloated or uncomfortable but have the little stomach ponche ...and I usually only go maybe once a week which I know can not be healthy. I have heard that many woman suffer from constipation?

Thanks for your help

I like this idea Tony. Bite size goals that are attainable, one at a time. I keep pressuring myself into everything at the same time and I'm constantly failing. Then I feel guilty, then I get bummed, so I eat everything I shouldn't, then figure "What the hey! I've eaten these bad things, what's the dif. if I eat those too!"

It's Monday. Fresh star with my first week of improved habits!

Hi Tony,
Sleep is exactly what we've been struggling with for the last 4.5 years. Samantha didn't start sleeping through the night until she was 2.5. At 8 weeks old, she was up at 5am, dozed for about 20 minutes in the morning, and another 20 minutes just before dinner. Then, she'd actually fall asleep around 11pm until 1am, up until 3am, and sleep again until 5am. That was basically her pattern until she was about 6 months old, when the 20 minute naps went out the window and she was up from 5am-11pm, and still waking for a 1am feeding and a 3am feeding. Just before Sammie turned 2, Brian was born. The two would never sleep at the same time, and Glen and I were sick for pretty much the first year of Brian's life (the kids were fine). At least Brian would have a 2 hr nap during the day, but he didn't start sleeping through the night until just after Xmas 2008 (when he turned 2 and a half). We read all the books. We tried co-sleeping. We hired a sleep coach. Nothing worked. My parents actually apologized to me one day, saying they felt they had cursed me by spending so many years wishing I'd have a baby just like I was (by the way, they claim by the time I was able to walk, they would just go to sleep and let me stay up), and felt terrible that I wound up with 2 babies just like I had been as an infant. My doctors advice was "throw away the books. Follow your instincts. You will get through this, they will sleep eventually, if you can get live in help, do it." Oh yeah, and my dr added that even though I'm eating well and walking 5 km pretty much every day, I shouldn't even think about losing these 10 extra pounds until I'm getting at least 8hrs sleep/night for more than 30 nights in a row. Which, had the kids not gotten colds in Jan and Feb, might have happened!

Thanks for coming in last week. I feel re-enregised. We had a date last Friday (my indulge meal) it's was great and I didn't feel guilty eating it. I think that's key. Remembering I'm allowed to have an indulgent meal makes such a big difference. And allowing myself a few a week (for now) guilt free will keep me from bingeing and feeling even more guilty.
